Churches in Normanton on Soar Parish

St James

Main Street Normanton on Soar Loughborough

There is a lovely friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the Church, so we hope that you will come and worship with us.  Our services always end with a cup of coffee/tea (and sometimes sherry!), which gives us time to chat.  On the first Sunday of each month, we have a service of Morning Prayer, with Holy Communion on the second, third and fourth Sundays and "Simply Worship" where there is a fifth Sunday in the month; and at all our services, you have the opportunity to sing some lively and some thoughtful hymns - both old and new.

The Church in Normanton on Soar is based in the 12th century church near the south end of the village.  It has a river frontage and is well known in the area for both its setting and its history as a boatmen's Church.  The Church exists to provide a focus for worship, for ministering to the spiritual needs throughout the parish, and to spread the Gospel.  Its historical interest and wonderful setting make the church an ideal location for holding both religious and secular events; and it is a popular venue for Weddings, particularly with the new Village Hall being directly opposite the Church, where Receptions can be held.

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) wishes to encourage more people to become involved in the Christian faith, particularly children and young people, encouraging them to organise and take part in concerts, festivals and services, as well as doing everything it can to "open-up" the church not only to the parish but also to the wider community.

It also has statutory duties under legislation to provide for full participation by disabled people, and needs to cater also for the deaf and hard of hearing.  With this in mind, a PA system including an Induction Loop has been installed; and the Church is wheelchair accessible.

For a number of years, St James Church has selected a charity to support for the year, and a cheque is presented at December's Carol Service.  In all, we have presented cheques totalling £12,200 to various local charities.
